For the past 7 years the board members of Matchan and their families and friends have held a Pancake Breakfast that provides us with funds, separate from those donated to operate the kitchen to feed the needy, to offset expenses for their Annual Appreciation Dinner. Therefore, we can tell our donors that no kitchen-donated funds are used to put on the dinner for the volunteers and donors.
Special thanks are in order to Rev. Gerald A. McEnhill, Pastor of Our Lady of Refuge Parish in Orchard Lake and Father Richard Cavellier, Pastor of Sacred Heart, who allowed the Board members, Bob Harper and Mike Merlo, to sell pancake tickets at their churches after the Masses. Bob also twisted the arms of many in the OLR Men’s & Woman’s Fellowship group.
For the second time, the Pancake Breakfast was held at Matchan because the pavilion in the center of Pontiac is no longer providing this space for charitable groups. As a result of the change in location, the attendance is lower but the profits are higher because we use our own facility.
This year we offered French toast made from Panera’s Cinnamon Raisin bread as well as pancakes. It went over so well that we ran out of Panera bread and had to go with another brand towards the end. Try it at home yourselves. I am sure you will enjoy it. In addition, each plate was garnished with peaches, strawberries, grapes and bananas. A few sausages were added to complete the dish. Coffee, orange juice and milk were included in the breakfast.
Matchan appreciates the support of all who participated. See who was there this year (in the gallery below) and be sure to join them next year for a great breakfast.
